Must haves for a Disney World Vacation!

Here is a list of our must haves for any Walt Disney World Vacation.

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World? You’re in the right place! Here are some of the items we have found most helpful over the years

  1. Backpack - Bringing a backpack is so helpful whether your trip is with kids or adults only being able to carry all the extra essentials easily is definitely a must. You can also stuff all of your park purchases in there so you’re not stuck carrying multiple bags all day.
  2. Portable Chargers - These are a game-changer, especially when traveling with kids. Waiting in lines can be long and frustrating and often times having a fully charged phone or tablet makes the wait much more bearable.
  3. Empty Insulated Water Bottle - Staying hydrated at Disney is key. Buying drinks all day can run up your vacation tab quickly. Quick service locations will gladly give you a cup or two of ice water that you can then transfer to your insulated water bottle to keep cold longer.
  4. Snacks - If anyone in your group gets “hangry” (we can relate!), having snacks on hand is crucial. Fun can quickly turn into frustration if you wait too long to eat and lines can be longer than expected even at quick service restaurants. Plus, if you have food allergies like we do prep can take some extra time, so bringing safe snacks ensures you always have something available.
  5. Ponchos - You’ve probably seen ponchos on every Disney packing list, and for good reason! Afternoon rain showers are common, and staying dry can make all the difference. Pro tip: If the forecast calls for rain, pack an extra pair of socks so you don’t have to walk around with soggy feet all day.
  6. Magic Bands - While they’re no longer included with your stay, Magic Bands are still incredibly convenient. You can open your resort room door (if staying on property), pay for your snacks and meals with them, you even use them to scan in for your Lightning Lanes etc. The Magic Band + also has lots of fun interactive features throughout the parks. Helpful Hint -  Wear your band, don’t pack it, so you’ll have immediate access and be sure to keep your bands and use them for your next trip or at Disneyland, Aulani, or even a Disney Cruise.
  7. Pins for Trading - Hear me out on this. Even if you have never been to Disney I highly recommend buying some pins to trade. It’s a fun way to interact with cast members and adds an extra layer of excitement to your day. You can also trade pins at your resort and in Disney Springs before and after your day at the parks or on your rest day! Some of us may go a bit overboard with pin trading and honestly I thought this is dumb but now it is one of the things we really look forward to.
  8. Medications - If anyone in your party needs to take medication during the day or with dinner it is important to bring it with you. The last thing you want to do in the middle of the day is trek back to your resort just to grab your meds. *Always carry any emergency meds with you.*
  9. Sunscreen - Florida sun is no joke! Even on milder days, sunscreen is a must, and you’ll need to reapply throughout the day. You don’t want to ruin the rest of the trip with a sunburned mom or child!
  10. Diapers and a Change of Clothes - If you are traveling with young kids or babies don’t forget the diapers and a change of clothes. You would be surprised how often we needed a clean pair of underwear when the kids were little.
  11. Gold Bond Powder (or Similar) - This stuff is so helpful when you’re walking 20,000 steps in a day and your thighs are chafing! A little powder can go a long way in keeping you comfortable throughout your vacation.
  12. Autograph Book and a Sharpie - Your autograph book doesn’t have to be a traditional book—get creative! Bring a hat, shirt, or even a picture frame mat for characters and princesses to sign as a special keepsake.
